Requiem for Victims of Genocide
by C. Edward Hupton
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 145 West 46th St., NYC
The New York Virtuoso Singers
Salomé Chamber Orchestra
The SilverCloud Native American Singers
Conducted by Harold Rosenbaum
This powerful work pays tribute to victims of the atrocities and horrors that occurred in several genocides throughout the world including Cambodia, Rwanda, Nanjing, the Russian gulags and North America. In addition, the closing segment represents Hupton’s personal pilgrimage to the Auschwitz concentration camp and museum. The composer states: “Requiem for the Victims of Genocide" is a timely work that reminds us that we still live in the age of genocide, and that only education and public outcry will halt such atrocities. In our own lifetimes too many heinous crimes against humanity have gone unchecked, when intervention could have diminished the tragic results.”
Tickets: $20
Tickets available at the door 30 minutes before concerts.
